Other island news!

Introducing Nyte'N'Day - The Other Side! So ya know the island attached to the Nyte N Day sim? Its been converted into a big "playground" of sorts. WOOT! Lemme show you some pics then I'll explain... pics are more fun then words anyway!

The island was created with entertainment in mind. Basically, I wanted a place in SL I could play with cool stuff and I wanted to give SL a place to play. (Not in that way you dirty birds!).

So! The Other Side features: Go-Karts, mini-golf, a scenic train ride, real playable arcade games with earn-able ticket redeemable for prizes, jet-skis, surfing, hang gliding, fireworks, and more! Just an overall neat place to kill a minute or 20. :D

Ok, I'm going back to sleep... but had to blog the newness before I do! :)

First! Nyte'N'Day is looking a little bit nicer these days! We closed down for a few hours last night for reno's. It looks SO much better! Yay!

And onto the newness...

The capri outfit also comes in blue and yellow but isn't pictured.

Also! Wanted to say a huge thanks to Emme Mannonen for all the help. If you check out the new store, you'll notice big posters all over the place. Our one and only fab Emme did all of them!

Cuuuute babydoll tops in 7colors: sand, yellow, pink, blue, teal, white. Layered tanks in a whole buncha colors too - 6 combo's in total. They all have funny little sayings like: "I'm the single one", "I'm the cute one", "I'm the slutty one". And lastly some capri's w/ sculpt cuffs.

Content creators are the reason why this world is so magical and wonderful! Content theft drives creators out of Second Life, discourages further creation, and at the very human level - it simply hurts us. Be aware that IP theft is a punishable crime.

When someone steals content it effects us all not just the creator! Please don't turn a blind eye to it. When you see stolen content - report it! Report questionable content to the original creator and to Linden Lab.

HEADLINE: Content Creators Bare All to Raise Awareness for Intellectual Property Rights
SUBHEAD: Campaign features prominent Second Life creatives naked in first round of ads

An intellectual property rights awareness campaign launches Friday featuring some of Second Life's most well-known content creators posing in the buff. The idea behind the ads is simple; educate as many of Second Life's residents as possible about the issues, effects and consequences surrounding theft in Second Life (SL).

The first round of ads in the campaign have been in production for the last two weeks and will feature Sachi Vixen and Damen Gorilla of Adam n Eve, Minu Palen of Minnu Model Skins - MM skins, Tigerlily Koi and Haedon Quine of Calla, Nyte Caligari of Nyte'N'Day, Caliah Lyon of Muse Fine Jewelry and Stroker Serpentine of Strokerz Toyz.

The idea for the campaign sprang from talks and group IMs regarding the growing problem of theft in SL, and the frustration many creators feel playing a largely defensive strategy which is basically sitting back and waiting for their creations to be stolen and then filing DMCA requests with Linden Labs (LL).

"I just got tired of hearing from friends who'd had something stolen about how frustrating the process was for them," said the campaign's creator, Chez Nabob. "I started thinking about trying to develop a more offensive strategy, one that would allow content creators to take charge instead of constantly being victimized. So I considered what some real-life groups had done to raise awareness for their cause and landed on the concept PETA uses in their anti-fur campaigns. I thought parodying those ads would be an effective way to shed more light on the issue among the broader population of SL."

The campaign's participants hope to enlist the help of their fellow content creators in blanketing SL with the ads by having the ad textures placed inside sale vendors along with whatever items each individual creator sells. When a customer comes into a participating shop and purchases an item with an ad texture inside, the ad will be delivered along with the item the customer bought. Additional ads will be made available in world for display in stores and at events while other ads will be placed in SL-related publications and blogs.

"Basically the idea is to educate consumers about what's going on out there. Theft is becoming rampant with thieves getting more and more organized all the time. Many residents unwittingly purchase items that are actually the stolen intellectual property of another content creator. We want the greater public within SL to see this campaign and understand the issue as a result," said Nabob. "We want residents to understand that, for many content creators, SL is their livelihood and theft here is no different from theft in the real world. Intellectual property theft is illegal and actionable in courts around the world regardless of whether it happens in real life or inside a 'game.'"

If the campaign can raise enough awareness among SL's residents, the hope is that people will join the content creators in lobbying SL's creator, LL, for more safeguards to help protect the intellectual property of content creators.

"What we want people to understand is that theft doesn't just cost content creators revenue, it has a cost to everyone in SL," Nabob said. "It costs residents when their favorite creators can't devote time to making new items because they're too busy chasing down thieves or they quit producing altogether because of theft. It costs thieves when they're caught and prosecuted in a real-life court. And ultimately, if we cannot start to get some safeguards in place, theft will drive content creators out of SL, and LL will then begin to feel the costs of an in-world economy that's been ravaged by thieves."

The hope is that enough awareness and education can take place as a result of the ads that a dialogue can be opened with LL and third-party ventures that will lead to a stronger, more robust system for dealing with the problem of theft.

"Due to technological shortcomings there will always be theft in SL, but our desire is to have the scripters, texture artists, builders, shoe makers, skin makers, hair makers, fashion designers, etc. talk with LL and other third-party developers and see if we can deliver some methods to help make things better for content creators and residents, and tougher for thieves," said Nabob. "That's the ultimate goal."

Hi Everyone! :) Hope you all had a lovely weekend! I just put some new stuff out at Nyte'N'Day.

First! A retro-ish kinda mini-dress. In, whew this is a mouthful, 3 different patterns and those patterns come in two different colors. Funny story behind this thing - I found the top in my inventory but with a different pattern. I really don't recall making this... so I went searching for more. Nothing else good. Too bad!! :P Anywho with a little reworking it came to be this. Well actually this but without the tights ...that was a suggestion from Emme, the manager at Nyte'N'Day. Enough babble its just cute, colorful and fun!

Then we have this funky wrap outfit available in pink, lime, white, yellow, sand.

And last! This sexy little thang!

And! Two new sets of jacket layer belts - I know a few of you came into the store looking for the old ones I retired, so, yay! They'll be more belt sets coming. I didn't really think they'd be missed! :)

Alice has some really cool eyes annnnd they're very well done! Tons of em! What I liked about Alice is that she not only has natural looking eyes but she's got funky ones too.

Fae's got a little bit of everything! Belts, shoes, jewelry, prefabs, and more... an overall cool shop. I fell in love with the belts, personally! Gotta love a good belt!

MONDAY EDIT: So I wanted to have announced the spots by now... buttttt my sister was in a car accident this morning. For those who know me... yep, AGAIN and nope, not her fault. Everything is ok with her healthwise, but I will need a few more hours today to play RL before I can play SL.

Creating clothes...

I get asked A LOT of questions in SL. Answering offline messages/notecards takes up significant time in my SL life… one of the questions I get asked most often, is the hardest to answer. “How do I make clothes?” I rarely answer this question well. It’s just such a broad question! So while the grid is down, here’s my fumbling attempt to answer it better. ☺

Programs:

Adobe Photoshop: This is the program I use to create anything and everything graphics. I began playing around with PS when I was in my young teens. I STILL learn things about Photoshop today…10+ years later. It’s not the easiest program to learn, but it is an industry standard. Get to know Photoshop well and you’ll have a marketable skill in RL too. Bonus! ☺ However, it’s not cheap. Not even a little.

GIMP: The FREE answer to graphics. I’ve only dabbled with this program but I do know a few people who use it, well. I’ve never heard them say anything like “I wish GIMP did enterSomethingHere”. I’d suggest using this if you’re unsure about spending such a wad of cash on Photoshop. Better to see if you even enjoy making clothes at all first!

Templates:

Ok now you’ve got the program(s), so now what? Grab some templates! These will show you where to draw your shirt, pants, etc. There are a few choices for templates out there:

Linden Lab provides your basic template. However, there are better ones out there. Chip Midnight makes great, higher resolution templates. I use the Chip templates. For greater template choices visit the official Second Life forums. TONS of excellent info there.

Creating the clothes:

Here the part I fail at. I suck hardcore at teaching, so, I’ll be providing links instead. If you know absolutely nothing about how to use your chosen graphics program I suggest Googling some basic use tutorials first or check out this link if you're using photoshop.

Natalia Zelmanov has a TON of tutorials on creating clothing and well, pretty much everything else you might want to make in SL. The tutorials are in depth and come with screenshots. I was just searching around for more links… but really this site covers EVERYTHING and has links that I’d recommend anyway.

So yea, there ya go…at least a starting point. Oh and just so you all know… I was constantly frustrated for the first few months of creating clothes until I got familiar with everything. SO many times I wanted to quit. All I can say in regards to this frustration about not just “getting it” and just “being able to do it”… is that it will pass if you practice. Every single time you go to create something new, it’ll get just a tiny bit easier and eventually it’ll be rarely frustrating and quite enjoyable! ☺

Oh yea, if any of you have found useful resources for starting out with clothes, please comment and share.

Couture Isle Shops!

Some of you may have noticed the little shops across from Nyte'N'Day... some of you have been asking how to put your stuff in there. Well here's the deal:

There are four available stores. I want to fill them up with avatar related accessory shops and help some folks out there get greater exposure! So what does that mean? Jewelry, hats, mittens (?), eyes, hair, etc. whatever it is that makes our avatars so darn pretty! :)

Ok there's one exception - I'm not looking to have "repeats"... so that the variety is the best it can be with so few stores available. We've already got shoes (E:D boutique) and clothing/skins (Nyte'N'Day). So everything else that is wearable and not sexually/racially/other badness explicit are encouraged to apply! Oh, did I mention the shops will be free? Woo! Also - prim allowance to be negotiated because I realize say... a hair vendor needs more prims then others.

How to apply:

1) Make a folder and name it "CI Shop Application - Your Name/Store Name"

2) Include in the folder the following things in the folder:
a) A landmark to your store.
b) Poster/vendor images (up to four) - the actual texture you use to make your vendors/posters.
c) Sample products of what you would be selling. THIS IS NOT ESSENTIAL but it does help if we can see the quality of your things first hand. ONLY send me samples if your 100% comfortable with this. I don't want anyone to have any hard feeling whatsoever if you've sent me something and do not get chosen.

3) Answer the following questions on a separate notecard. Include this in the folder.

What is your full avatar name?

What is the name of your store?

How long have you been in SL?

What do you make in SL?

Anything else you'd like us to know?

4) Send the folder to Nyte Caligari or Emme Mannonen no later then Sat, Jan. 12th, 2008.

Fine print: Scripted vendors are not allowed unless they are LOW lag. I frequently check "top scripts" and will return any scripted items that take too much script time. I (and any Couture Isle staff) reserve the right to return any vendors/posters we deem offensive in anyway.

Holiday Skins...

Ok, so I figured I'd keep the freebie Holiday Skins up until Jan 1st. Not sure what time I'll delete them from the shop, but sometime on the 1st when I'm recovered from tonight!

Onto group news! If you'd like to continue to receive Nyte'N'Day related news please join the group named "Nyte'N'Day Updates". The Couture Isle Update Group is closing tomorrow. Since the sim that houses Nyte'N'Day is no longer Couture Isle, it just doesn't make sense to keep the group name.

WOOT! It just officially turned Christmas here! :) Merry Christmas everyone! Hope it's a good one!

Ooooh! Before I go, gotta tell this story!

So here I am, self-banished to a room wrapping presents and I hear sirens. Whatever time passes, still wrapping (doing a lousy job too), still hear the sirens. I think "Wow what an asshole...whoever that is they're chasing. It's Christmas!". 5 mins later STILL sirens.

Ok. Time to investigate. So me, sister, sisters boy go outside to check what's happenin. JUST in time to see a firetruck...decorated with Christmas lights ALL over it, BLASTING Christmas music. Santa and Ms. Claus were on the top, spotlight on em, waving to everyone! Then, after that, cop car with all his lights & siren on! Then cop van, all his lights on, siren!

It was really neat! I'm sure all the kids in my town thought it was the THE coolest thing they'd ever seen.

It was a nice thing the cops/firefighters/ambulance people did. It made us all smile. It's heartwarming that a group that already does *so* much for society as a whole did this too.

Bit of a rant...

Is it just me... or do people seem extra uptight lately? Just in the last week or so. I mean, people just bitching because they can, or being rude where it's just totally not necessary, impatient...etc. Now don't take my words wrong, the vast majority of you are great to deal with! :) However, the crankypants seem to REALLY be coming out lately. Even some of the customer service reps *waves at you guys* have been noticing a spike in general spazzyness. If we're experiencing this - others must be!

So here's my official public notice to the angries:

Be nice to us designers. We're not evil. We never have set out to "get you". We don't purposely do things to make you mad. Quite the opposite in fact! I always try to keep the consumer in mind. Always. I think the majority of larger SL retailers do. Things we do or don't do, generally are chosen by what we THINK will make the majority happiest as possible. Anyway I kinda went off on a tangent there. The bottom line is: when you're dealing with people please just try to be respectful. It's a stressful time of year, so while I understand being grouchy, it's just really not needed.

THAT being said. Lemme address something:

I know no transfer sucks in gift giving times! Really, I KNOW...I've heard, LOTS! lol. However, I've tried to make it as easy as possible, within SL's limits, to still give gifts. There are gift card vendors located through-out my in world shop. Gift cards are transferable.

However if you'd like specific items sent to an avatar, you can shop through SLX or On Rez. The majority of the older items on those sites are still transferable. Oh, and they come in pretty gift bags!

So those are the options for gifts. No, I will not budge on the permissions of my items. Those that still insist on asking - you will get the same spiel. :) For the reason's why Nyte'N'Day is no transfer please refer to this blog post.

New clothes, new store, new sim!

Ok! Lots to talk about...

There's a bunch of new stuff out at Nyte'N'Day! Three separate sweaters in tons of colors, 4 longer skirts, and cargo's. And not 100% new, but a little bit, sculpted pant legs for jeans! YAYYY! SO many people have asked for these. I admit, I put it off because the texture work was tedious. The good news is, I'm also selling the pant legs separately from the jeans for those that already own jeans. You might have to take the flare of your original jeans in from appearance mode however.

New store! New sim called "Nyte N Day"! Teleporting to the old store will land you right outside the new, so don't worry! :) I know the shop is a nice little lag machine. My hopes are that with a bigger store and faster sim some of these problems will be eased. The new store takes less then half the prims! Woot!

What else? Hm. Oh! I put the holiday skins out again for $1L. They come in a bunch of skin tones and have two festive makeups!

Here goes, now we'll all know just how geeky I am:

1. Ever since I was a kid I've had a fascination with "little worlds/things". For example - I really like aquariums because when done right it is a little world. A mini-ecosystem. I've been like that forever - loved Barbie, loved miniatures...etc. Haha my childhood "dream" was to have a miniature town similar to the one like in the movie Beetlejuice. So it makes sense that I like SL so much! :)

2. I really enjoy drinking socially and I'm not so sure I'll ever grow outta it. Heck, I'm 26 and still love the bar scene. BUT I get the worst hangovers known to man. Seriously. Day after going out to the bars, I'm LUCKY if I can get out of bed to do anything but vomit before 5pm. EEEEEEW. Most times the night was so good, it was worth it though!

3. I'm a loner with only a handful of people I'd call friends. This is 100% ok with me and preferable.

4. I believe strongly in Karma and I enjoy seeing "instant karma" profusely! For and example of instant karma: lol, ok not the best example, but the only one I could think of off the top of my head. One day I listed something on SLB for $0L by accident. This is when my things were transfer still and it was CLEARLY not a freebie. There were other colors of the same shirt, for 65L listed at the same time. So some girl starts to buy copies of the $0L shirt. She gets about 3-4 before I notice. I think "oh shit, but meh, my fault". So, I raise the price to what it was supposed to be. She however did NOT notice the price going back to what it's supposed to be and continued to buy about 6 more copies.

5. Forgetfullness is one of my biggest vises. I'll forget your name, to call, your birthday, etc. If it's possible to forget, most likely, I've forgotten. Lemme just apologize ahead of time for all those who have to deal with this. lol.

6. Pretty much everything I know that I find useful in my life - has been self taught.

7. I enjoy learning - to the point that I actually STOP liking something if I've learned everything there is to know about it.

8. I have Lupus. An auto-immune disorder where your immune system attacks various organs/functions of your body. For me - it attacks my kidneys, my joints, my brain and my blood.

Ok, last fact is a cop-out if you've read my blog, cuz it's been said...but I can't think of anything else right now and wanna stop doing this!

And um, I don't tag anyone back... because, man, the blog feeds are getting outta control. LOL! Nah, really, I just have no clue who hasn't been tagged now.

The new store build is pretty well done. I'm aiming for Friday sometime to open. I'm giving myself a few days to create some new stuff first. So hopefully I'll stick to that deadline!

First: Happy Thanksgiving to all those who celebrate it today!

Second: I'm still here! I know I haven't released in awhile. Reasons? I'm re-building the shop...again! While I LOVE the build you see now there's a few problems with it I'd like the fix. And, of course, the issue of space is always a problem.

Third: Prim pants legs for my jeans. Oy. It's taken long enough, eh? These are in the works and will be available with the new build. For those who already own my jeans and don't wish to re-buy... for a limited time (about a month or two) the prim legs will be available separately as well.

PS - much love to all those who are buying copies of my "Lupus Edition" outfits. At the end of the month, I'll be making my first donation to Lupus Canada. Wohoo! I've had a ton of IMs from people who suffer from Lupus and other "invisible illnesses"... I hope you all are feeling as good as possible. :) A lot of people have also asked how I've been feeling - for the most part I'm doing very well. Basically - all profits from purple outfits created from now on will go to Lupus Canada. Why? Because I have Lupus. Because someone you know has Lupus. Not many people have heard of it. The treatments are outdated and in some cases side effects are almost as bad as the Lupus itself. In my case Lupus has effected my joints, my kidney's and my brain - and I'm pretty sure I have a mild version of Lupus.

My SL name? Nyte - because I really like night time. I'm a night person and I always will be I figure. Caligari - because it was sorta similar to the city name Calgary - a city that no matter where I am, I will always love.

I am! I haven't been in SL much lately. I've been feeling kinda bad - healthwise - but not to worry, I'm being watched closely by my doctor. It's to be expected when you have Lupus I guess. And... I've been kinda burnt out. With all the new things (build, SensiDress, etc) there's been not a lot of time to just design. I hope I get over this burn out soon, I feel unproductive.

Anyway, I think I've mentioned previously that I wanted to design something special for Lupus research? You know -- like the RFL but for Lupus Canada. So here's how I've decided to work that all out. In new releases from now on, I'm going to be making a purple version of outfits (where ever possible, you know *shrug* not every new thing will work in purple) - all proceeds from these will go to Lupus Canada. Why purple? Well purple is the color for Lupus. That way, in time, there will be a good amount of them = more money for Lupus. :)

The newb tool-kits are pretty much done, well the female one. I finished up the poster so it should be in the store soon! The female kit includes: skin, shapes, a few outfits, shoes, hair, how-to notecards written by the fab Emme Mannonen, AO by ANA_Mations, and some more goodies. The male version will be along shortly - just trying to get all the pieces together since I don't do some of the things needed (like mens skins). Big thank you to all those who've offered items and to Emme for all the help!

So - it's been brought to my attention that the updated SensiDress skirts will need to come in small and large. I'm considered a petite avatar in SL standards. So, I think we got that covered. However, I need some shapes bigger then me to base a larger fit on.

SO! If you've made you're own shape - and my prim skirts do NOT fit you - a copy of your shape would be SUPER helpful! :) Please, when you send the shape make it no modify/no transfer.

ALL flexi skirts now w/ SensiDress

I just finished updating all the flexi skirts with the SensiDress script (aside from the outfit's I've done with Luminosity). You'll know the ones that have the script, because they're labeled with an "SD" at the end of the name of the vendor.

If you purchased any skirts that have now been updated between the dates of Sept 1st-Sept 6th... I will send you an update. Please understand this will take a significant amount of time - so please try to be patient with me.
Edited to add: I'm just going to be dropping the updated skirts. I know it may seem a bit rude to drop stuff on everyone without a warning... buttt it'll save me a lot of time and get the updates out to you guys faster. :)

If you purchased any skirts that have been updated BEFORE Sept 1st and you want the SensiDress upgrade you will need to "trade in" your original prim skirt for two copy/no transfer skirts - one SensiDress and one normal. Please make a folder and put the PRIM SKIRT only (I don't need anything else but the prim skirt) that you're wanting to trade in. Name the folder your entire SL name. Finally send this to me and I will send you the new copies.

Just to clarify: it's *only* flexi prim skirts that have this feature. Straight, non-flexi, mini-skirt prims do not use this.

Prim skirts - featuring SensiDress

Q: What is this?
A: Its a scripted skirt, to help solve some of the problems that prim skirts currently have. Such as when your avatar sits down the prim skirt stays straight down. Or when you walk, longer prim skirts "trail behind" you. The SensiDress solves these problems. It automatically adjusts itself depending on what your avatar is doing to sit correctly on your body. It covers sitting, standing, and walking but can be customized for any pose.

Q: How/where do I get the SensiDress upgrade?
A: Currently it's only in new skirts, "Raiment" and the "Grace" and "Blush" gowns. However, I'll be upgrading all the skirts over the next month.

Q: Do I still get a regular prim skirt with the skirts that have been upgraded?
A: Yes, you get a copy of the regular prim skirt and the SensiDress scripted skirt.

Q: How do I use it?
A: The skirts are identified by *S*. If the name of the skirt has *S* on the end, that's the SensiDress upgrade. Now you just have to wear it to make it work. Adjustments in fit might be needed. Keep in mind if you're on land that has disabled scripts, the dress will not work.

Q: How do I adjust it?
A: When wearing your skirt, click on it. It will give you a menu, select the "help" button to get a notecard with detailed instructions.

Q: Are all Nyte'N'Day prim skirts going to have this?
A: Yes! I will be updating skirts slowly to include the upgrade at no extra cost.

Q: I have a regular Nyte'N'Day prim skirt but I want the upgrade! Can I do that?

No transfer explained... again

Since I announced I was going copy/no transfer and in turn did, I've gotten a few complaints about it. Let me just say, I could count the number on one hand... but if that amount IMed me, there must be more out there biting their tongues. So lemme take a minute or 10 to try to explain to those who are disappointed by the changes.

The SL asset server has become unreliable. People are losing inventory. This is a fact, not an opinion. Ask around, check out the official forums - the residents answers. Sometimes, transactions go stale. Meaning money is taken from you, but no product delivered. Sometimes even, you'll get what you buy then crash/log out, when you login - its gone.

Unfortunately I hear stories like this daily. It's simply not fair for you guys to have your stuff disappearing all over the place. It's not acceptable and not cool. On the other hand, it's not very fair to me either. I'm sure a high majority of people who contact me with these problems are being honest... but we all know there's not so honest people in SL. How many of these people are just taking another copy to give to their buddy?

Copy will not solve all of these problems but it will help tremendously. Even if a copy item disappeared replacement would be no problem at all. All I need to do is confirm your transaction. SL is not getting better in regards to stability its been on the decline since I first signed up (2005). Sad, but true. But trust me, lol, I would not have gone to the *insane* amount of work it was to change posters, perms, re-stuff posters, etc. if I did not think it was a necessary step.

There's other cool things about copy. Like offering new things on multiple layers (and I've even gone back and done the current outfits, when possible, on other layers). Mixing and matching - in an organized way. Seriously, guys... do this. Your inventory will explode with possibilities!

Anywho, I hope this clears up why I did what I did.

The Details

Renovations on the store went overall well! :) The only real problem was when I was unlinking a bunch of posters... they all poofed. Just...poof. The posters ended up at the dreaded 0,0,0 coordinates of my sim. So! I had to re-do around 15 posters. At 7am that just wasn't cool. Ah well. 'Tis the life in SL.

I have to say... I adore the new landscaping/tree's! This may be kinda goofy but they're tree's that grow around here in RL. It makes it feel more home. I'm at total peace in the mountains. I can't explain it... its just "ahhhhhhh". Anywho, to bring a bit of that feeling into my SL surroundings is awesome. The majority of plants are from Heart Garden Centre - they do SUCH a great job.

Here's some of the newness - just a few photo's.

Skins! They come in three tones: light, tan, and dark all with the choice of black or brown eyebrows. 15 makeup choices in each tone from bare to cat eye! And one great thing - the shape seen in the photo's is included! Yay!

New clothes!

Rainment Skirts! These come in plaid (as shown), plain black & white, leopard, camo, and zebra.

Two sweaters in lots of colors too! The "Mortise" sweater is pictured.

Jean jackets (includes tank).

I love love love the mesh tank and bra to this. I've been wearing it for like 3 weeks. Woah! It looks great mixed with the rainment skirts too!

So what else? Well we still gotta do the event-esk thing! That'll be tomorrow sometime. There's also a few more things to come - stuff I just didn't have time to complete.

We (A friend, Emme and I) are making a newb tool-kit. Everything to rid yourself of the newb look - skin, hair, clothes, walk replacer, etc. All free. :) And I have to do little things around the store. Make a map/teleporter. Get employee pictures hanging in the shop. I'll think about it tomorrow. Time for some sleep I say!

Oh! I almost forgot - the discount section upstairs is much bigger. I really don't want to make the store any bigger anytime soon, it's fricken HUGE, so things will slowly be moved up to the discount section and eventually retired.

PS... Has anyone seen Skel A. Tor? lol!

Nyte'N'Day Closes Tonight!

Nyte'N'Day will be closing tonight at midnight for renovations! I'm not sure how long it'll take but most likely I'll be pulling an all nighter. If all goes well maybe a few hours. I wish I could be more specific but I really don't have any idea how long this will take. Make sure to join my update group "Couture Isle Update Group" if you want to stay informed.

I want to have some special event-things over this weekend. Maybe a "treasure hunt" for fashion cards (gift cards). I'm not sure, something cool. So the events will be pretty sporadic - join the update group! I'll be hanging out around/in the store most the weekend too. Well, aside from Sat during the day - a girls gotta sleep! :)

So I've decided what to do with my shop and the things in it.

- re-doing my skins

I think I've mentioned this briefly in other posts. I'm getting a little tired of the cartoony appearance of them... so will be working a lot on fixing that. And I've gotten lots of good feedback on the current skins that I'm keeping in mind as I go along. I'm looking forward to doing the makeup and will be including more natural makeups (natural was a fairly common request). I've been playing with the skins for about a month now, but since I've put the deadline of Sept 1st on all this stuff will have to be a tad bit more dedicated to them.

- re-build of the store

The rebuild is coming along nicely. I think I'm pretty much done with the actual build and now am moving towards posters. Some have to be re-done but most of the time is spent changing permissions of my items within my inventory. I'm keeping the layout pretty much the same, so regulars don't have to re-learn where everything is.

- versatility

As mentioned on the transfer change "warning" poster most of Nyte'N'Day outfits are becoming more versatile. The texture picker in SL was borked for so long but it is now fixed! Wohoo!! I'm taking the time to put as many outfits as the texture picker will let me on different layers. So for example a shirt will come on the shirt layer and jacket layer.

On that note...if you have transferable clothes that you would like to switch for copy/mod ones please IM me in game.

- gift cards/fashion cards

As I'm stuffing the new posters...I'm also setting them up to accept Nyte'N'Day Gift Cards. You might have seen the system in use before in shops such as Blaze or Pixel Dolls. If you haven't seen automated gift cards before it's quite simple to use. You "wear" the card like you do any other prim object. To use the credit on the card you RIGHT click on the vendor/poster and select "Gift" from the pie menu. Cards will be available in these amounts: 250L, 500L, 1000L, 3000L.

- new clothes

Since my time is being dedicated to all these new things, I've also decided to hold off on releasing new clothes until Sept 1st as well. I know it's a drag to have to wait so long... but with all the newness it'll be worth it! :)

- bigger discount area

I'll be putting more clothing into the discount area (it'll still be upstairs) and also my current skins will be moved up there. They'll be permanently reduced in price but only sold in single packs to save on room (and prims!). Soooo if you were saving up to buy some skins, my suggestion would be wait 'til Sept 1st because not only will there be newer better skins, but the ones sold now will be much cheaper.

SL ADD

Ok, I admit it... I'm going through a rather large case of SL ADD. I'm working on a million things but not really getting anything done. And this post is really random and totally unorganized... sorry about that.

Working on:

- Few outfits to release but haven't taken pictures -- because I might wait...

- Working on and off on a new version of my skins -- as a side: they're looking really good so far. I've yet to do any makeup, but I'm liking the body so much better. Still TONS of work to do on em, so not even gonna try to put on approx. date of release on em yet.

- Been working on and off on a new store -- so much to say about this one...read on! :)

First: I still really love the current store. At the same time I'm anxious for a change. The new store build is difficult because I kinda have to "live up" to the current one. That pressure is kinda messy with the whole creative process.

Second: I think deleting the current store is the only way to go. Am I willing to just poof it? Linking it all/selecting it all and taking it into inventory would be a major pain. Is there even any point to keeping it? I mean, I really doubt once I got rid of it that I would ever use it again. Then again, I do really love it and it would be a shame just to delete it.

Third: I've been tossing around the idea of changing permissions on all my things to copy/mod/NO transfer. I really don't know how, you guys, the customers would feel about this. I've read a bunch of forum posts, on all sorts of forums. It seems split totally down the center of who prefers what perms. The survey I did a few months ago was pretty well split down the middle too. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.

There's a few good points and bad points of copy/mod/no transfer -- Issues with missing inventory wouldn't matter anymore! Had an outfit you bought two months or two minutes ago...if it poofs from that inventory of yours it'll be replaced.

Mixing and matching (woot!) and more robust options -- Since things would be copy I could do future outfits with more options. For example a new bathing suit could now be offered on ALL clothing layers OR a shirt could come with a few different sleeve length options. The reason they lack these "perks" right now is because of the Transfer option. Plus Mixing and Matching! Need I say more about that? So many of my outfits mixed up look awesome!

So there's the obvious good points of no transfer items. Here's the bad things: no more recycling of clothes. You're stuck with the outfit. You wont be able to give items to that cute newb or your friend.

Buying gifts for other people wouldn't be done the same way anymore. If I were to go no transfer I would employ an automatic gift card system. One that works instantly -- no waiting for me to fill your gift card order. So I suppose this is good and bad. I don't currently have gift cards but all my stuff is trans.

So then I got to thinking... perhaps I'd offer BOTH permission's. For example have the poster - then under it two littler posters with both options copy/mod/no transfer and no copy/mod/transfer. Thing about that is then suddenly every outfit takes three prims instead of one. So really not sure how feasible this is at all.

Last thing about the store: I'd like to have my new skins ready at the same time as the new store. It'll just be easier to incorporate the new skin posters into the new build. Then I should probably wait on releasing all new goodies too.

Ok, almost time to stop blabbering. I have to decide what to do about the new store vs. old store. Then I have to decide what to do about the permission's thing. Then I can get over my SL ADD and get stuff done!

So I dunno what to do!

Feeling a bit...

I'm feelin' a bit bla tonight. Few reasons.

Second Life's performance is worrying. *All* day I tried to pick up about 8 things... it was boxed clothing. Some things simply disappeared, other times the "take" option from the pie menu wasn't selectable, other times things wouldn't rez, I kept getting errors when trying to upload... (working on Skins!!) etc.

This is just one example of how SL *is* nowadays.

I wonder what this does to the mindset of a casual user. I mean they don't have to put up with it. None of us should have to. Casual/new users must just think "wow, this sucks. It doesn't even work!" and not login again. Doesn't LL (Linden Labs) read their blog? Their forums? People are really discontent.

I'm trying to keep this pretty objective because I realize what SL has given me. At the same time I pay for my premium account, I pay their fee's, I pay for my island, so is there not a certain amount of functionality warranted?

Anywho, just sayin'... it's worrying.

Second thing that contributes to the bla's. There was a small issue with a RFL purchase. The outfit is named Love and is NO TRANSFER. It says so on the poster. Dunno, the situation just left a bad taste in my mouth. Since all the proceeds from this outfit goes to the Relay For Life and it's only $125L (going for volume here to try to maximize $L for them)... I just figured no one would dispute that *even if a purchase error was made* because all the money does go to charity. It kinda makes me feel...well I just don't know how I feel about it.

So, my creativity has been a bit killed. Was hoping blogging would perk it back up! We'll see! :)

First and foremost CSR Reps are NOT sales people. You are hired to help customers find something, fit a skirt, fix their shape/skin, etc. There should NEVER be pressure for a potiential customer to buy anything.

That being said, you should be experienced with the mechanics of SL and building (to help adjust prim stuff).

I need reliable people. I need you to be at the store when your shift is. I do understand RL comes first but mostly *you* choose your shift time and how often you want to work... so please when you say you can work, for example 5-7pm SLT, make sure you really can! :)

Please note: If I hire you, you will be on a two week trial first before going to payment with Linden Dollars. In this trial, you'll be able to see if you like the position and I will be able to see if I would want to hire you on a more permanent bases. "Fuse" comes with the shirt, undershorts/booty shorts/ flexi prim skirt and is avaliable in red, black, green, blue, magenta.

Brill comes with a jacket, halter and slacks. Also avaliable in plum.

Rapt comes with wrap halter, flexi prim knot, denim capris. It also comes in blackish/purple.

New Luminosity & Nyte'N'Day..

I put these up yesterday... but I'm sick so kinda draggin' myself to do things. Anyway! Sol and I teamed up again to do a business suit with tons of options! I guess you could call it the "essential pieces" to business wear. The sets come with: a plain blazer, 7 blazers with shirt collars, 2 stockings (white, black), slacks, prim skirt, undershorts. Please note these are no transfer. The business suit comes in lavender and black as well. :)

Any other designers/business owners read this?

Just curious... how many advertising/show/rental space/model applications/etc related things do you get dropped on you per day? Or on the flipside, how many are YOU dropping on people a day?

I get at LEAST 4-5 a day. I admit it, I just glance at them unless they specifically grab my attention. It's nicer when the people ask me if they can send something. It's a bit aggravating when your in appearance mode putting together an outfit and something is suddenly dropped on you. This is a new thing but it pops you out of appearance mode reverting your outfit to the default or whatever it was before.

Anyway! I commend these people for their efforts (but still get a tad bit irked when things are dropped on me). Because really... when you're starting a business that wont have a strong physical presence in world (build, traffic, etc) because of the nature of it how else do you really draw attention? Well you could network but how do you even get close to the people you're targeting? I don't know about other designers, because I really just sit in my studio or somewhere on my Island and design/answer IMs... that's basically 99% of my time online.

At the same time though it's annoying to be on the receiving end of all this. Notecards, textures, landmarks, all sorts of stuff is dropped on me all day.

So what's the solution? How do business' get their word out to their target market without disruption? But they key here is how do they get their word out to the market who is even receptive to it? Which leads to another question! How does the business even know who is receptive?

Figure that out and you'll make a whole lotta moola! haha! :) This could lead to an interesting discussion.

Not sure if anyone has noticed that reads this blog (haha not many do) have noticed my lack of response to offlines and emails... I didn't have time to blog that I was/am moving across the country. Well... I decided to take a break from house stuff and SL wont let me in! So if you sent me a message or needed customer service if I don't get back to you within 36 hours please don't hesitiate to re-contact me.

As for the move. It went suprisingly well! Only a few things broke, a vanity type thing for my most beautiful bedroom furniture piece that was a splurg and I loved. Oh well. 3 bowls also broke, but no biggie really.

The drive from Ontario to Alberta was interesting to say the least! We (my dad and I) drove through most of Ontario with ease, it was sunny, nice scenery. Ontario is ALOT more beautiful then I ever realized. When you get to more remote parts of it... it looks like BC (rocky mountain area) but without the actual mountains!

As we started to get closer to the Ontario/Manitoba border it started to lightly snow...nothing to worry about for me. Started to snow harder. Still not that bad, only thing that sucked is when the road got passing lanes because then you couldn't see the definate "tracks" in the snow and also big trucks passing us, which stirred up snow making it hard to see where I was going. It started to snow harder. We switched drivers because really in a snowstorm who do you want driving? Someone who's done it like 3 times or someone that has most of their driving life? We start to see snowplows, so it's not so bad still. Manitoba border, snowing harder. We do a little "wohoo" when we realize we're out of Ontario because for one reason or another each of my immediate family has a "bitter taste in their mouth" about that place. You would think that there would be a sign saying the border was there, or welcome to Manitoba...something, but there was no markings. It's snowing even harder now but the highway divides. Another "wohoo"! Then we see a big rig truck in the ditch. Uh oh, that's something you really don't see often. Dad feels the car going side to side. Crazy fuckers are passing us. Weird scene. Thankfully we kept the car on the road. By the time we got anywhere near civilization where we could stop for the night the visibility was almost nothing and we saw a dozen or so cars in the ditch.

The rest of the trip was pretty much just driving and stopping for food or to sleep. Now that I'm here in the new house I still have unpacking and tons to do...so I will still be offline a little more then usual but slowly coming back to SL! :)

WOHOO! SL Vogue is putting on a Fashion Show today annnd I'm featuring 4 new designs. They'll all be in my shop later tonight but you can come to the show to see 'em all a bit early! hehe. Ok, so I wanted to make a sweater & tank top combo. Layered. I'm not sure exactly, I was just messing around in photoshop really. I made the tank top... uploaded it. Thought, "Whoa! Way too pretty to be under a sweater!". To me... it looked too good to be anything BUT formal. So slowly it transformed into "Grace" a flexi prim formal gown.

"Grace" comes in 6 colors (cranberry, brass, emerald, jade, chocolate, midnight blue). So there we have it, I did Formals, by accident...sorta. haha! Hope you like em :)

In the past I've never really wanted to do mens stuff. No offence guys but in comparison to womens, mens clothes are pretty boring. But for whatever reason I felt like doing some mens too! Actually, the feeling is probably spurred on from the men I've seen TP in... I feel bad! I have masses of womens stuff and so new guy TP's to my store. He see's all the womens things and thinks "cool, there must be some pretty good guy stuff too". Upstairs he goes and see's a handful of outfits for men. So I figured you guys were due for some newness. All the mens stuff is upstairs, so when you don't find it on the new display look there. ;)

And... hoodies are hard. I feel for all the designers who have made one before. Or maybe I'm just prim challenged. Could be either. heh.

Enough blabbing. Here's the newness!

I've been working on some other things (heh) which is why the slight delay in between releases... but I have some new for you guys!!

First up, a set called "Gleam". My other boho/long skirt set is really popular, so to expand on that style I did this! The set comes with: two shirts (one long, one cropped), glitch pants and flexi prim skirt. It's avaliable in four colors (blush, smoke, brown, sage) for $215L each or in a fat pack with all them for $695L.

Second a sexy or cute outfit, depending on how you wear it... Rollick. This one comes with: stockings, flexi prim skirt, two shirts (long and cropped), and undershorts. It also comes in four colors (blush, blue, smoke, white) and is $215 each or $695L for the fat pack.

And last, Zipped. I really like the idea of zippers running all the way down the leg on the back of pants. Not sure why, to me it looks pretty cool! So there ya go... zippers on the back of pants! Zipped comes in three colors (red, smoke, burnt) and includes: flexi knot/tie, pants, shirt.

Three new outfits for today! Not sure if you've noticed but I have a survey near the new items display... so these sets are in response to a lot of the feeback from those. :) Also, the flexi skirt is a tad bit longer then my regular prim skirts of this style.

Not sure how this release will go over, because it's not my "normal" style... whatever that is but I really like these all a lot and enjoyed makin' em.

So I made some semi-formal (well not even sure you can call em that) dresses. I think they are really pretty and I hope you guys do too. They are for sale alone or as a fatpack. But please keep in mind all fatpacks are no transfer.

Second I re-did my "basics" pack. It just something useful for when you need a plain tank, or shirt, on a specific layer. The packs are 20 pieces in total and come in black, white, or grey. Packs includes: tank, ribbed tank, wifebeater, ribbed wife beater, ribbed halter, bra, thong. All tops are on jacket, shirt, and underwear layer and the thong is on the pants layer and underwear. These packs are all mod/copy/no transfer.

Thankful...

Anyone who knows me well, will know that every once in awhile I'm compelled to be sappy. So here goes, sappy!

I was just sitting here thinking about Second Life. There's been a lot of negativity generally surrounding SL. The camping chairs, texture theifs, drama, grid crashes, etc.

There's one thing I know about Second Life, that will never change, I'm thankful for it and the people in it. Really... think about it for a second. How cool is SL? ANYTHING is possible. One can make a living. One can be creative. One can be a escort if that's what you want! You can be snowboarding in the mountains, next minute shopping for some hot outfit, next minute having a gun battle! Where else can this happen?!

Regardless of all the things that upset us about SL, I remain thankful.

For those who don't know, I have Lupus. Without SL, I'm just not sure where I would be or what I'd be doing for work. This world lets me have days where I just can't get out of bed, days where I can't move my hands, days where my brain is so scrambled that I don't know what I'm doing most times. It gives me what we all need more of. Time and freedom. I don't mean freedom in the traditional sense but more freedom from our daily routines. Wake up, go to work, lunch, more work, home, *insert free time here*, dinner, *insert free time here*, bed. Repeat. For some of us, free time is even less.

That being said, I'm also thankful to all my customers and supporters. Without you guys none of this would be possible. So to all of you, my sincere and humble Thank You. :)

And last but not least... I want to thank anyone who has ever blogged Nyte'N'Day. I appreciate the time and effort that goes into blogging all the newness of SL. You guys even put up with a lot of drama bs because of it! You all do a great job and I enjoy reading all the fashion blogs!

Ok, I'm done being sappy for the moment. haha.
